The Cold Has Settled

The ice that freezes to the core.
Deep inside you,
Bones aching.
Breathing comes in shallow gasps.

"Anywhere but here!" You scream.
"Let me out!"
Your breath is wasted.

Numb toes, the first signs of
hypothermia.
It spreads quickly.
You feel nothing but your heart.

The beat is slowing; eyes are closing.
And at last,
You are gone.

Love,
Lizz
